The Battle Within
An old Cherokee describes an experience going on inside himself….
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

My husband just shared this in our Bible time a couple of weeks ago. I had never heard it before. The words are so simple, so true. We can apply it not only to what we feed ourselves, but also what we support externally.

I first heard a version of this illustration of the old man and new creature in Christ back in Bible College in the ’60;s, The evangelist in chapel gave us a word picture of a cart with two horses hitched to it. The horses were hitched on opposite ends of the cart. The cart would go in the direction of the stronger horse. Regardless of the analogy, the truth of II Cor. 5:17 is usually relevant. It is far too easy to feed on worldly things. That’s why the morning story is so good to point us in a positive direction. Thank you, Kenny.
