Why I’m Thankful

I Am Thankful for…

The messes to clean after a party because it means friends have surrounded me.
The taxes I pay because it means that I’m employed.
The clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.
My shadow who watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine
A lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.
All the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech.
The spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking
My huge heating bill because it means I am warm.
The lady behind me in church who sings off key, because it means that I can hear.
The piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby
Weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been productive.
The alarm ringing in the early morning hours because it means that I’m awake and alive.

  1. Very true and from a different (better) perspective than most think. Thank you !!!

Great Thanksgiving statement. I love the Dilbert episode you chose for this post, as the Cubicle Cockroach represents the opposite of gratitude. While such insects are commonplace at work, they scuttle around church as well, subtly sowing discontent. At least we won’t have to endure them in heaven.

  3. Now that’s how to think positively! For a person (like me) who tends to think from the negative perspective first, this is an excellent read 🙂

I am taking this week off from my blog, but thought I would share this in keeping with the Thanksgiving Spirit. Caution, it will make you rethink the way you view some things. =) Enjoy!

I’ve been trying to be thankful for things you generally would complain about too. Just the other day I was leaving a cemetery following a burial, and found myself quietly muttering about the gravel I was walking over, and the way it was slowly giving me a blister while making me wobble all over the place. I then remembered where I was, and said out loud “I’m glad I can feel this pain.” Great blog 🙂

  7. There are so many different ways that we can be thankful if we just think about it for a second, and then if we think about that, we realize we must have lots to be thankful for. Life is good.
