Unconditional Love in Action

There was a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.

The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. He hesitated only for a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, “Yes I’ll do it if it will save her.”

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away”.

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her. But why do we not wonder, that he was ready to die for his sister!

  4. Easy for him, being young and unknowledgeable. At my age, I know dying for another is easier said than done… but alas! it’s what we have been called to. I wish God would give us the mind of that young boy.

    All the Glory to GOD for allowing HIS only Son to die for us. It is because of GOD’S Grace and Mercy the little boy was able to survive and help his sister in her situation. May God continues to Bless the little boy for his love for his sister. Be Blessed, Mtetar

  9. Amen brother !! We all need to simplify our busy minds to become like little children…
    Jesus tells us this, in…

    Matthew 18:2-3… Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (NKJV)

  11. I’m always touched by the “all-out giving” in this story.
    There’s nothing a loving brother wouldn’t do for his sister.
    And I’m even more touched when I think of the “all out giving” Jesus did:

    “Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though
    someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.
    But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us
    while we were still sinners.” (Rom 5:7–8 NLT)

    Now that… blows me away!

  14. Guess I don’t get out much by looking at all the comments of those who had already heard this story. As with most of your story posts, it is the first time I have ever heard them. They are always a blessing, and I frequently read them to others. Thanks again for another heart-wrenching one!
