The Story of a Woodcutter
Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant and he got it. The pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.
His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he supposed to work.
The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees.
“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”
Very motivated by the boss words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.
“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.
“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.
“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

Some times I’m so busy sharpening the axe, I forget I’m supposed to be cutting trees. Thanks for the visual challenge to be balanced on both ends!

Is that from where we derive the idiom: “the cutting edge”?

Caring for the tools we use in our work and our lives is important to the outcome they will give us when used. Now where did I put my sharpener?

Just as we, forgiven children of the Father, need to sharpen our “sword” daily! Ephesians 6:17 “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;”
We must remember, the way that Jesus dealt with His temptations from the enemy after His 40 days in the wilderness was by using the Word of God! Same for us! Let us never forget to daily sharpen our Sword by spending “feeding on the Word”! It’s the ONLY offensive piece of the ‘armor of God’.
This post is a great analogy.
Be blessed

Another great parable, driving home the necessity of continual “sharpening” of our entire lives: our thoughts, actions, motivations — all on the whetstone of scripture, strong Christian teaching, and prayer. ‘Love these stories that grab our attention and challenge our spirits!
