The Story of A Blind Girl

There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her boyfriend.
One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her and then she could see everything, including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, “now that you can see the world, will you marry me?”
The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend was blind too, and refused to marry him. Her boyfriend walked away in tears, and later wrote a letter to her saying:
“Just take care of my eyes dear.”

I think the last line made the story. However, it could have gone in a different direction if the last line had read “and they lived happily ever after.”

Reminds me of how we take for granted all that God has done for us. In the story the girl after receiving eyes and able to see lost sight of the one who loved her so much that he gave his own eyes for her to see.

This story confirms for me the old but true adage, that if you don’t love yourself you are not really ready to love anyone else. Self-acceptance is the first step for any lasting relationship. God already accepts all of us, and if God accepts us how can we not accept ourselves?

I had to catch my breath at the last line. Beautiful and yet so sad. I think her reaction is sometimes how we thank God for His blessings and very often how we treat each other. I have read stories where each half gave up their most precious possession to buy a gift for the other except that each gift involved the possession they no longer had. Then they both knew how much they were loved. I like happy endings. 🙂

How many times do we do this every day without realizing it? A lot. We do this to God constantly! Having a close family member who is blind, I still take things for granted, but it has helped me to appreciate life a little differently than some.
