A Winning Team

Dilbert Morning Story and Dilbert

Lee Iaccoca once asked legendary football coach Vince Lombardi what it took to make a winning team. The book entitled Iaccoca records Lombardi’s answer.

There are a lot of coaches with good ball clubs who know the fundamentals and have plenty of discipline but still don’t win the game. Then you come to the third ingredient: if you’re going to play together as a team, you’ve got to care for one another. You’ve got to love each other. Each player has to be thinking about the next guy and saying to himself: “If I don’t block that man, Paul is going to get his legs broken. I have to do my job well in order that he can do his”.

“The difference between mediocrity and greatness,” Lombardi said that night, “Is the feeling those guys have for each other.”

As we take seriously Jesus’ command to “Love one another”, we contribute to a winning team.

  1. You’re right. We are all in this together. We’ll come out stronger when we work together and when we look out for one another.

I love the “love” tie in with Mr. Lombardi. Love does, (and always has), make the greatest difference. Thanks for your visit to my site…

Another great story, which brings me to a question I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while. I know where the comics come from, but where do you get such a great supply of stories?

    • ….good Question!!! I search the internet for stories that touch my heart. When they really tug at my emotions, I rate it as “Dilbert Material”. And if you notice the characteristics of the stories reflect strong Christian values. I believe the good Lord sends me the right stories to be published in His timing!!!! And one more thing or confession, most of these stories make me either laugh, cry, or experience feelings that are just to hard to explain. It’s all about what I said earlier “Dilbert Material”. Thanks again for asking the question, Take Care and God Bless 🙂 Kenny T

  5. I would venture to say that this would hold true in any facet of life. I know it is a gamebreaker in the military. You become so close nit that you begin to feel and think the guys and girls your fellow servicemen and women are your family. So much so more than their own families at times. Thanks for sharing.

Loved your blog. Linked to it on mine as I reflected on the same topic….Love one another. If that was the only thing the church was faithful to, maybe we could start looking like the church in Acts again….

Several years ago, it dawned on me that Jesus had “kicked it up a notch” when he told his disciples that he was giving them a “new” command to love each other as he had loved them. He had told them before, “love your neighbor as yourself,” but this command to love each other trumped that, and was more intense. Ever since then, I have tried to gain more understanding of how we, the Church, are supposed to love each other. Thanks for this reminder.

And the Dilbert cartoon. I love Dilbert.
